If your community is enrolled in the Community Rating System (CRS), you may receive a discount on your flood insurance.
The National Flood Insurance Program’s (NFIP) Community Rating System (CRS) provides discounts on flood insurance premiums in those communities that establish floodplain management programs that go beyond NFIP minimum requirements.
Communities can receive credit for more restrictive regulations, acquiring flood-prone property, and other measures that reduce flood damages and protect floodplains. Over 1,500 communities now participate in the CRS and are taking action to reduce their vulnerability to flooding.
In CRS communities, flood insurance premium rates are discounted to reflect the reduced flood risk resulting from the community’s efforts that address the three goals of the program:
Reduce and avoid flood damage to insurable property
Strengthen and support the insurance aspects of the National Flood Insurance Program
Foster comprehensive floodplain management
If you have questions about the CRS, call your insurance agent or company. You can also encourage your community officials to take part in the CRS.
